College Football Regular Season Standings

Welcome to the first of many College Football Articles of the season.  In this article, I will have my complete conference standings of the regular season along with bets I like for win totals.  Keep in mind that in the conference standings the records do not include each respective conference championship as the win total bets do not include any type of postseason.

Team Totals I Like

Note: The odds taken were from 5Dimes as of July 11th

Air Force Over 4.5 (-130)
I believe Air Force will be favored in 5 games and they host Nevada, Navy, New Mexico, and Colorado State.  They do have a tough schedule, but I have the Falcons being bowl-eligible after missing out last season.

Appalachian State Over 8.5 (+115)
They should lose at Penn State, but the only games that scare me other than that is @Arkansas State and hosting Troy.  Even if they lose all three, they still hit 9 wins.  As long as they don't lose in an upset being a touchdown or more favorite in the rest of the games, this should be a great bets at great odds.

Arkansas State Over 8.5 (-140)
Back-to-back Sun Belt... yikes.  I really like this Arkansas State team and I will make the bold prediction that they will be ranked by season end.  They are the premier team in the Sun Belt, face App State at home and don't have to play Troy.  Two of the road games are against two of the worst two teams in the nation (Coastal Carolina and Texas State).  You can chalk up a loss at Alabama, but that's the only loss I have on the entire schedule for this team.  Facing Tulsa on the road after the Alabama game will be a hard fought game, but even if they lose to Alabama, Tulsa, and App State they will still finish 9-3.  I don't like the odds but give me the Red Wolves' over.

Coastal Carolina Under 4 (-135)
Three straight Sun Belt teams, I know I know, I promise this isn't just a preview of the worst Division I  conference.  I rated Coastal Carolina's Sun Belt schedule as the toughest in the league this season.  They draw all the big boys (Troy, App State, Arkansas State) and only get ULM and Georgia Southern at home.  They don't get Texas State on the schedule either and I have them pegged for a winless conference record.  In the non-conference, they should win against Campbell, but the rest is @South Carolina, UAB, and @Massachusetts.  Even -135, I am hammering this one.

Connecticut Under 3 (+105)
Connecticut has eclipsed 3 wins once in the last 5 years ('15).  This year they return 9 starters (only 2 on defense) and it will clearly be a rebuilding year, from a team that went just 3-9 last season.  I have them only beating Rhode Island, but they do host Massachusetts and SMU.  I don't think they have a huge home field advantage so I'm not worried about teams coming to Storrs and picking up a win.

Duke Over 6 (-115)
I have Duke going 9-3 and although they have some tough games I really like this squad.  They return 15 starters and lost 4 games last year by 7 points or less.  I think they improve on the 7-5 record from last year and finish 2nd in the ACC Coastal Division.

Florida Atlantic Over 8.5 (-105)
All aboard the Lane Train!  I love this Florida Atlantic team that returns 10 starters on D and returns Running Back Devin Singletary who was a 4th Team All-American selection last season.  This team won its last 10 last season and could open some more eyes this season.  They open @Oklahoma, although I don't have them winning that game all I can think of was the 2007 Fiesta Bowl in which Boise State upset the Sooners.  This team has a tough schedule, but this isn't your average group of 5 team.  Lane's boys will make some noise this season.

North Carolina Over 5.5 (-115)
Like rival Duke, North Carolina lost 2 close games and lost 44 starts due to injury last season.  North Carolina will be much improved and return 13 starters and a lot of guys who got some experience due to injuries.  They do have some tough matchups but at -115, North Carolina will get to a bowl and exceed the 5.5 total.

Ohio Over 8.5 (+115)
I'm excited to see Frank Solich's Bobcats this season.  I think they will go really under the radar even with the high 8.5 win total.  This team is a group of 5 team that will challenge Florida Atlantic and Arkansas State for a chance at a New Years Day bowl.  They are a little young on D, but if the D keeps up with the offense's output I see double digits and wouldn't be overly surprised if they run the table.

Oregon Over 8.5 (-120)
Quarterback Justin Herbert is one of the top QB's in the nation.  The Ducks host Washington and Stanford and if they can pick up a win out of those two it could push the team to 10 wins.  With 14 starters and not seeing USC out of the South this is a great bet.

Purdue Under 6 (+100)
This team drew a rough schedule (#2 in the nation only behind UCLA).  They get Ohio State and Michigan State out of the East and host the top three teams out of the West.  I have them being underdogs in 9 games, so they would have to pull off multiple upsets to get anywhere near 6 wins.  At even money, I love this bet although I do believe in Jeff Brohm and think he'll have his team pulling an upset or two.

San Jose State Under 2.5 (-105)
What if I told you that the opening line on San Jose State/UC Davis has UC Davis being favored by a point.  What if I told you that the rest of the games (maybe not Hawaii at home) San Jose State would be a dog.  Is the under of 2.5 something you would be interested in?  Had to throw an Entourage line in the article it just felt to right.  I don't think this squad would even have a winning record in the Sun Belt.  Give me the under at short juice.

SMU Under 5.5 (-115)
Most of SMU's winnable games are on the road.  They are 3.5 points dogs in the opener against North Texas and I see them opening 0-4 before beating Houston Baptist.  They have to face UCF on the road from the East and I just don't see them getting to a bowl this season thus hitting the under.

Temple Over 6.5 (+100)
I'm very high on Temple this year and think they will compete for the AAC East title with UCF.  This is a tough defense and if the offense picks it up this year, lookout for the Owls.  They do have to visit Maryland, Boston College, Navy, UCF, and Houston (that's why this is at plus odds).  I am very high on the team and will gladly take the even money here.

UCF Under 9.5 (-115)
I think with the coaching change and losing some key starters, there will be a slight hangover for this team.  I hate the idea of betting against Quarterback McKenzie Milton, because he is a stud but I have the Knights at eight wins.  They don't have a super tough schedule, but I'm high on Temple and have the Owls winning the AAC East.  UCF has plenty of slip-up games against the likes of @North Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Pittsburgh, @Memphis, Temple, Navy, and @USF.  I'll take the under.

Thanks once again for the read! Stay tuned for my predictions for every bowl game and the College Football Playoff that I'll have out in the next few games.
